I've got the DIY bug, badly.

One of my goals this year was to complete at least one DIY (do it yourself) project a month. A month? Now a month seems so long! I managed to do my first project on the second day of the new year, which shocked me. I've been less than motivated since Christmas. I'm pretty sure Luke would agree. ;) But, with weight loss a forethought in my mind, I figured my menu board would be a good way to start. So, I figured I'd share it with you.

Supplies: One 12x12 photo frame ($8 after coupon), one piece of 12x12 scrapbook paper ($1.29 after coupon), and red faux aluminum letters ($2.49 after coupon). Not too bad, right?

The shadow box frame I bought had three different layers so you had the option to put the paper where you wanted. I added the letters to the paper, but I used 3D dots so the "MENU" part jumped off the page. I added the black swirl under the MENU part just by cutting some black scrapbook paper. All in all, not too bad. I had trouble with the colors since almost everything in my living room/dining room is red or orange. But I can always change the paper later. That was the inexpensive part anyhow. I've been using black permanent marker to write things on it until I get to the store and actually remember a thicker dry erase marker.

Also, don't mind the pictures. I got a new camera for Christmas, and it wasn't simple enough to just take it out of the box, point and shoot. I'll have to take some time to fiddle with the settings. Spruce up your kitchen and make one of these. It filled the boring space in my window really well!
